Imo APC insists Uzodimma remains senatorial candidate despite court ruling

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, despite a court ruling reportedly replacing him with former governor Rochas Okorocha.

The party stated its position in a statement issued on Thursday by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, describing reports of Uzodimma’s removal as unverified.

The APC accused opposition figures of circulating claims on social media suggesting that the governor had been replaced as the party’s senatorial candidate.

According to the party, Uzodimma won the APC senatorial primary with overwhelming support from party members and remains its candidate for the district.

“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members,” the statement read.

The party, however, acknowledged the legal developments surrounding the candidacy, saying its legal department would review the outcome of the court’s intervention before deciding on the next course of action.

“The party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” it added.

The APC urged its members and supporters to remain focused and committed to securing the party’s victory across constituencies in Imo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development follows reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja had removed Uzodimma as the APC’s candidate for Imo West and recognised Okorocha in his place. The party’s statement signals that the legal dispute over the ticket may continue as it reviews the ruling.
