By Yarima Haruna, Kebbi
Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bagudo Local Government Area of the State Government’s firm commitment to strengthening security in their communities and across the state.
Governor Idris gave the assurance while addressing the displaced persons in Bagudo on his way to Kaoje, where he was scheduled to commiserate with the people over the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu, Alhaji Saidu Mujeli, and recent attacks allegedly carried out by heavily armed vigilantes ( Yanbanga) from neighbouring Niger State.
The Governor said his administration is deeply concerned about the security situation and would take additional measures to protect lives and property and restore confidence among affected communities.
“I want to assure you that the State Government will take additional security measures to improve security in your communities and other parts of the state. We will not allow our people to continue living in fear or being displaced from their homes,” Governor Idris stated.

Idris expressed deep sadness at the sight of the displaced persons, describing the situation as painful and unacceptable, particularly where innocent citizens are forced to abandon their homes and means of livelihood as a result of attacks.
He stressed that the State Government would not condone acts of brutality, violence or the destruction of communities, assuring the people that every necessary measure would be taken, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
The Governor appealed to the displaced persons and other residents of the affected communities not to take the law into their own hands, urging them to remain calm and allow the government and security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crisis and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He further assured the victims that the State Government would facilitate the timely provision of relief materials, including food and other essential supplies, to alleviate their hardship while efforts continue towards restoring normalcy and enabling them to return to their communities.
He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, political leaders, well-meaning individuals and other stakeholders to complement government efforts by providing support and assistance to those affected by the crisis.
Responding, representatives of the IDPs thanked Governor Idris for visiting them and for demonstrating concern for their plight. They expressed appreciation for the government’s intervention and assured the Governor that they would remain calm and refrain from taking retaliatory action.
