Iran claims it shot down US military drone over Bandar Abbas

Iran’s military has claimed that its air defense systems shot down a United States military drone over the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, amid tensions between Tehran and Washington.
According to a report published on Sunday, October 25, by the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim, the Iranian army said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed a US-made LUCAS drone.
The United States had yet to publicly confirm the reported loss of the drone at the time of reporting, and Iran’s claim had not been independently verified.
Bandar Abbas is a strategically important port city in southern Iran, close to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international shipping route through which significant volumes of global oil supplies are transported.
The reported incident comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries, with US President Donald Trump recently indicating that Washington could consider further military action against Iran while leaving open the possibility of reaching an agreement with Tehran.

The LUCAS, short for Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System, is an American unmanned aerial system designed for military operations. Its reported interception could add to concerns over aerial security and the risk of renewed confrontation between the two countries.
Iran and the United States have previously exchanged accusations and military threats during their wider confrontation, which has raised concerns about the potential consequences for regional security and international energy supplies.
Further information from US authorities or independent sources will be important in establishing what happened and whether the incident could trigger additional military or diplomatic responses.
