An InDrive rider has expressed frustration with the platform’s cancellation policy after a customer allegedly kept him waiting for nearly two hours over a delivery request involving a package he could not accommodate.

The rider shared his experience in a video circulating on social media, where he criticised what he described as the unfair treatment of delivery riders by some customers. He also raised concerns about the platform’s cancellation rules, which he claimed made it difficult for riders to decline jobs they could not handle.

Recounting the incident, the rider said he arrived at the pickup location around 1 p.m. after contacting the customer beforehand to ask about the item he was expected to deliver.

According to him, the customer described the package as a uniform and assured him that it would fit inside his delivery bag.

However, upon arriving at the location, he discovered that the item was a large Ghana Must Go bag, which he said was too big to fit into his bag.

Realising that he could not transport the package, the rider said he asked the customer to cancel the request.

“I told them, I cannot carry this thing. Can you please cancel this thing?” he recounted.

The rider alleged that although the customer initially agreed to cancel the order, the situation later changed, leaving him stranded at the pickup location.

He explained that he was reluctant to cancel the request himself because, according to his understanding of InDrive’s policy, cancelling a job could result in a six-hour restriction from working on the platform.

The situation, he said, left him with the difficult choice of continuing to wait or risking losing the opportunity to earn money for the remainder of the day.

“I have been at the mercy of this particular customer, begging and begging for almost two hours now,” he said.

The rider further claimed that the customer attempted to find another rider through a different platform to transport the package after he had explained that he could not carry it.

Questioning the customer’s decision to keep him waiting, he argued that customers should be considerate of riders’ limitations instead of insisting that they handle deliveries that are unsuitable for their equipment.

He also highlighted the time, fuel and other expenses riders incur while attending to delivery requests, stressing that their efforts should be treated with greater consideration.

The rider maintained that delivery workers should not be pressured into transporting items they cannot safely or practically accommodate.

Concluding his complaint, he appealed to Nigerians to show more understanding towards riders and other service providers.

“We can do better, Nigerians. We can do better,” he said.
