“I’ve Been In Politics Since 1987” – Amaechi Challenges Anyone Accusing Him Of C@rruption To Prove It

- ADC vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has challenged anyone accusing him of c@rruption to provide evidence, saying he has been involved in politics since 1987 without being arrested over such allegations.
- Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he also urged Nigerians to focus on the economy and what he and Atiku Abubakar would offer ahead of the 2027 election.
ADC vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has challenged anyone accusing him of c@rruption to provide evidence, insisting that he has remained in public life since 1987 without being arrested over such allegations.
Amaechi made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, October 2, while responding to questions about his record in public office, including his time as Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Rivers State governor said his long career in politics should make his critics produce evidence if they believe he engaged in c@rruption.
“Have you asked yourself why they are finding it difficult to arrest me? I’ve been in politics since 1987. 1987!” he said.
Amaechi, who was announced as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate on the ADC platform in June 2026, maintained that he had consistently denied being c@rrupt.
“I am waiting for the person that will prove that I was corrupt,” he said, adding, “I will not near corruption. I will not get close to c@rruption.”
He also said he would not accept kickbacks, insisting that nobody could approach him with such an offer.
When asked whether repeated questions about c@rruption offended him, Amaechi said attention should instead be directed towards the economy and the plans he and Atiku would present to Nigerians.
“Please can we focus on the economy because the people need to know what Atiku and I would do, than you arguing whether I’m corrupt or not,” he said.
Amaechi also compared his assessment of c@rruption under the Buhari administration with allegations surrounding the current administration, arguing that what he described as c@rruption under President Bola Tinubu was more visible.
