Kano police require 72-hour notice for public durbar, horse-riding activities
The Kano State Police Command has directed individuals, institutions and organisations planning to hold Durbar or horse- and animal-riding activities in public places to give the command at least 72 hours’ written notice.
The command said the measure was necessary to allow security agencies to assess the planned activities and make adequate arrangements to protect lives and property.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced this on Friday during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.
He said the directive followed reports of breaches of the state government’s ban on Durbar and horse-riding activities across Kano State.
Bakori said the ban remained in force and was binding on everyone, regardless of their status or position.
He explained that the 72-hour notice requirement was agreed at a joint security meeting to strengthen coordination and ensure adequate security coverage for any approved public riding activity.
“That any person, institution or organisation that deems it very pertinent to undertake any form of Durbar, and/or Horse/Animal-Riding activity in public place in the State is required to give at least 72 hours prior notice in writing to the Kano State Police Command,” he said.
The commissioner said the notice should be addressed through the Office of the Commissioner of Police to enable the command to conduct the necessary security assessment and make arrangements for public safety and order.
He urged all residents and organisations to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies.
Bakori said the decision was part of efforts by law enforcement and security agencies to maintain peace, safety and order across the state.
“I assure residents that all security agencies remain united and committed to protecting public peace,” he said.
The commissioner also warned that the security concerns that led to the ban remained relevant, stressing that authorities could not allow activities capable of threatening public safety to continue unchecked.
He called on all concerned to respect the security directives and avoid actions that could disrupt peace and order in Kano State.
