Kebbi flags Off 102km road projects in three LGAs

The projects comprise the 41-kilometre Unguwar Jeji–Diggi–Maidahini Road in Kalgo Local Government Area and the 61-kilometre Bunza–Makera Road. Both are expected to ease transportation, improve access to markets and enhance economic activities in the benefiting communities.
The Governor recalled that the Unguwar Jeji–Diggi–Maidahini Road had existed since the administration of former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, but had remained in deplorable condition for many years, subjecting residents, farmers and other road users to considerable hardship.
He explained that the reconstruction of the road with asphalt pavement would provide a durable and reliable transportation network, improve accessibility and facilitate the movement of people, goods and services across the benefiting communities.
Governor Idris urged residents to appreciate the efforts of his administration in addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges, assuring them that his government would continue to prioritise projects capable of improving their living conditions and stimulating economic growth.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Muslim, commended Governor Idris for his sustained commitment to road infrastructure development, particularly his efforts to improve connectivity between rural communities and major economic centres across Kebbi State.
At the flag-off ceremony of the Bunza–Makera Road, Governor Idris explained that the project was a fulfilment of the promises he made during his electioneering campaign, noting that his personal experience of the deplorable condition of the road informed his administration’s decision to prioritise its reconstruction.
He observed that the poor state of the road had subjected residents to significant transportation difficulties, making its reconstruction imperative to improve accessibility, reduce the challenges faced by road users and stimulate economic activities in the area.
The Governor emphasised that the benefiting communities were predominantly engaged in farming, stressing that a functional road network would ensure the smoother transportation of agricultural produce, goods and services while reducing unnecessary difficulties for farmers and traders.
“We will continue to execute projects that have a direct bearing on our people. This government is your government. Support this administration so that we will continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to you,” he said.
Governor Idris also called on residents to cooperate with the construction company to ensure the smooth execution of the project, adherence to approved specifications and completion within the agreed timeframe.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Muslim, described the Bunza–Makera Road as a strategic infrastructure project connecting Bunza, Kalgo and Birnin Kebbi Local Government Areas.
He explained that the project would involve complete reconstruction of some sections and rehabilitation of others, alongside the construction and improvement of crossing culverts to address challenges associated with streams and swampy terrain along the route.
The Commissioner further noted that the benefiting area was an important agricultural hub, particularly for rice production, adding that the improved road network would ease the transportation of farm produce, strengthen commercial activities and support agricultural development across the communities.
The flag-off of the two road projects, covering a combined distance of 102 kilometres, represents a significant step in the Kaura-led administration’s drive to improve rural infrastructure, connect farming communities to markets and create better economic opportunities for farmers, traders and other residents of Kebbi State.
