Nigeria @66: Sokoto governor advocates FG, state collaboration to end insecurity in Nigeria

The governor commended the Federal Government for its support in the fight against banditry in Sokoto, saying sustained cooperation remained critical to restoring lasting peace in the state.
“There is a strong synergy between the Sokoto State Government and the Federal Government in our collective commitment towards protecting the lives and property of our people,” he said.
Aliyu said his administration had continued to complement the efforts of security agencies through the provision of vehicles, weapons and other operational equipment.

He said the state had provided more than 200 patrol vehicles, two emirate bulletproof vehicles, 100 Buffalo APCs, 200 motorcycles, 3,200 security hardware, 2,000 bulletproof vests and 200 night-vision goggles since the inception of his administration.
According to him, the government also procured 100 thermal-vision scopes and other security gadgets, facilitated the full operationalisation of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Sokoto and upgraded the Department of State Services tracker from 4G to 5G technology.
The governor added that the state established the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps and provided it with 40 Hilux vans and 700 motorcycles to support security operations across the state.
He also listed the facilitation of a military barracks in Illela and a Police Mobile Barracks at Tara Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area among measures taken to strengthen security.
Aliyu reassured residents of his administration’s determination to end banditry in the state, while urging citizens to support government and security agencies in their efforts to restore peace.
“We remain determined to bring an end to banditry in Sokoto State,” the governor said.
He also called on Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers, urging citizens to emulate their patriotism and commitment to the struggle for self-rule.
Aliyu noted that Nigeria had experienced “many ups and downs” since independence but had also recorded significant achievements.
He expressed optimism that the country would continue to progress through renewed commitment and collective efforts.
The governor further appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting, cooperating with and praying for the nation’s leaders as they discharge their responsibilities.
He wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
