Ondo Air Crash: NEMA Deploys Search-And-Rescue Team

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed a specialised search-and-rescue team to intensify operations following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft near Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, directed the agency’s Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Bature Usman, to lead a technical team to the crash site to support ongoing search and recovery efforts.
The deployment is aimed at strengthening coordination and providing additional technical and operational support to emergency responders already working at the scene.
Umar said NEMA intervened to enhance the ongoing response and ensure that the necessary resources were deployed to support the search-and-rescue operation.
She commended the prompt activation of rescue efforts following the crash and reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to provide further assistance as the operation continues.
The NEMA chief also expressed sadness over the incident, describing it as a painful loss to the nation and acknowledging the sacrifices made by Nigerian Air Force personnel in the service and defence of the country.
She extended her condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Nigerian Air Force and the families affected by the crash.
Umar prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives, comfort for their families and speedy recovery for those injured in the incident.
