Osun APC protests short notice for Tinubu campaign committee inauguration

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has protested its exclusion from preparations for the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign committee, accusing the arrangement of risking unnecessary tension within the party.
A press statement dated 22 October 2026 and signed by the state APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, revealed that the party leadership was not informed about the inauguration before names of committee members appeared on social media.
The committee is to be co-ordinated by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the presidential election scheduled for 16 January 2027.
Lawal said the party supported Tinubu’s re-election but wanted the campaign organised through proper consultations and official procedures.
He said the announcement, made less than 24 hours before the event, left party leaders, members and supporters with little time to prepare.
Party alleges plan could cause internal tension
The Osun APC said it learnt about the committee through a social media listing published by Governor Adeleke’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, on the afternoon before the inauguration.
Lawal said the state party leadership had not held any prior meeting on the arrangement before the names were published.
He questioned the short notice and said the lack of consultation could create an avoidable misunderstanding between the party and Adeleke, who was appointed the campaign’s state co-ordinator.
The chairman alleged that publishing the committee members’ names so close to the event, without consulting the state party leadership, was a ploy to set the Osun APC against Tinubu.

He said the party would not accept any arrangement that could create such a division, insisting that the president’s re-election was a shared responsibility.
Lawal also questioned whether social media announcements should be treated as genuine communication for an exercise of this scale. He maintained that the campaign required the official protocol expected for a national presidential election.
APC backs Adeleke’s appointment
The party said it was not opposed to Adeleke’s appointment as the state co-ordinator of Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Lawal said the arrangement could improve the president’s chances through joint contributions from the political parties involved.
He stressed that the APC was willing to make concessions to secure Tinubu’s re-election, but insisted that the process should be handled properly.
The chairman said the party had been working towards the president’s return through different means. However, he maintained that the campaign committee should have been arranged through consultation with the state party leadership.
The statement did not identify any alternative committee members or provide details of discussions with the organisers after the announcement.
WHAT READERS SHOULD KNOW
The Osun APC’s objection concerns the process used to announce the campaign committee, not Tinubu’s re-election bid or Adeleke’s appointment as state co-ordinator.
The party says it supports both the president’s re-election and Adeleke’s co-ordinating role, but wants better consultation and adequate notice for campaign activities.
