Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters Church says people should deal with their selfishness before getting into a relationship.
Preaching at a sermon titled “Fixing and Restoring A Broken Relationship And Marriage,” he warned against dating someone who makes everything about themselves.
He used Proverbs 23:6 to make his point.
He gave the example of a woman who insists on an iPhone 18 for her birthday even when her partner says he cannot afford it.
“You will know you did not find a wife.
You found a knife,” he said.
He also spoke about a man who buys an expensive phone for himself but never thinks about upgrading his partner’s phone.
Idowu said that shows a lack of care.
“Love doesn’t need to be asked. Love takes initiative,” he said.
He added that people should watch how a partner treats others, not just how they treat them, because someone can pretend to care while looking out for themselves.
