Police arrest three for killing family of six in Oyo

Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder and robbery of a family at Oloba village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

The suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village, were allegedly involved in an attack on the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children on September 22, 2026.

The police said the suspects invaded the residence armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.

During the attack, the suspects allegedly stole N200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.

Hammed Akinbami allegedly shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward were accused of attacking the wife and hitting her on the head.

According to the police, the suspects later tied two of the children by their hands and legs before throwing them into a nearby river. The remaining members of the family were allegedly killed, with their bodies also dumped in the river.

The Command said detectives launched an investigation after receiving credible intelligence on October 2 concerning the incident.

The three suspects were subsequently arrested and allegedly confessed during interrogation to their involvement in the crime.

Police said the family’s Boxer motorcycle was recovered alongside one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club allegedly used during the attack.

The remains of the wife have been recovered, while search efforts are continuing to locate the remains of the other victims.

The suspects and the case file are to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a thorough investigation into the case and vowed that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
