Prophet’s Son Arrested For Impersonating Cleric, Defrauding Victims Of N18m

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Adewale Arojah, identified as the son of a prophet, for allegedly impersonating a popular cleric on Facebook and defrauding victims of more than N18 million.
Arojah allegedly used the identity of Prophet Dr Muyiwa Akogun to offer fake prophecies and prayer services to people seeking spiritual assistance, including victims in Nigeria and abroad.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by Akogun on October 3, 2026.
According to the statement, Akogun, who is popularly known on Facebook as “Prophet Dr. Muyiwa Akogun”, reported that members of the public had complained about fraudulent activities being carried out in his name through a duplicated Facebook profile.
Following the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ilaro Division deployed intelligence and detective operatives to identify and apprehend the suspect.
The police said sustained technological monitoring and intelligence-led analysis led operatives to the suspect’s location in a village in Ajegunle, along the Ilaro/Ibogun axis, where he was arrested.
Babaseyi said the suspect confessed during interrogation to impersonating Akogun on Facebook.
“He admitted to using the cleric’s identity to deliver fake prophecies and offer prayer services to vulnerable individuals, thereby defrauding victims residing both within Nigeria and in the diaspora,” the statement said.
The command said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly targeted people seeking spiritual assistance through Akogun’s Facebook page, gained their trust and collected more than N18 million from them.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The police said the investigation would determine the full extent of the alleged fraud, identify possible accomplices and facilitate prosecution where appropriate.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ilaro operatives for their vigilance and swift response, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting residents from digital and physical threats.
The command also urged members of the public to exercise caution and conduct proper checks when engaging with religious leaders and public figures on social media.
