Retired police officers, under the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria, are protesting at the National Assembly gate.

They want President Bola Tinubu to sign the Police Exit Bill into law without further delay.

The bill would take the Nigeria Police Force out of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

The protesters say pensions are too low. Forum leader CSP Raphael I. Irowainu (rtd) said the bill was passed on December 4, 2025, and sent to the President on March 16, 2026, but has still not been signed.

He said the protest began on September 29 and will continue until the government acts.

Earlier this week, the retirees occupied the National Pension Commission headquarters in Abuja for about seven hours

They accused its Director-General, Omolola Oloworaran, of interfering with the bill.

Her representative told them she is working to improve retirement benefits, but the protesters said they want full exemption from the scheme.

Irowainu claimed that some retirees receive lump sums of between N2 million and N9 million, with monthly pensions ranging from about N25,000 to N100,000, depending on rank.

He also claimed that more than 20 retirees have died in the past six months because they could not afford medical care.

These figures and claims have not been independently verified.

The group plans to protest at the Ministry of Finance, the Police Service Commission and the US Embassy.

It says it will keep protesting until the President signs the bill or addresses their concerns.
