Wike expresses confidence in Tinubu’s support in FCT ahead of 2027 elections

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will receive support in the territory during the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with political stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The minister, who coordinates the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the FCT and Rivers State, said political differences should not prevent leaders from working together in the interest of development.
Describing the gathering as one of his happiest days, Wike noted that the engagement demonstrated how politicians from different parties could set aside their differences to pursue common objectives.
He highlighted what he described as progress under the Tinubu administration in the FCT, citing the advancement of the Apo-Karshi Road project after years of delay, as well as the establishment of women and youth secretariats and the elevation of career civil servants to senior positions.
“President Tinubu’s administration has made significant progress in the FCT, including moving forward with the Apo-Karshi Road project after 16 years of delay. The administration has also promoted inclusiveness by creating women and youth secretariats and elevating career civil servants to senior positions,” Wike said.
The minister also defended the Federal Government’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy, arguing that previous administrations had acknowledged the problems associated with the policy but had been reluctant to end it.
“Every president said it was a scam, but nobody had the courage to say it would go. That is the pain we will endure till we get it right,” he stated.
Wike further observed that increased allocations to state and local governments had created opportunities for infrastructure development without excessive dependence on commercial bank loans.
On preparations for the 2027 elections, the minister disclosed that the campaign council would soon be inaugurated, adding that political mobilisation was already under way.
He urged eligible voters to ensure they possessed their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the election, calling on them to vote for Tinubu and other candidates of the party.
Wike’s meeting with stakeholders from both the APC and PDP highlights his continued engagement with political actors across party lines as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
