Zelenskyy holds talks with Trump’s Envoys as Ukraine peace efforts continue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held discussions with United States President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine continue.

Zelenskyy announced the conversation on Sunday, October 18, saying the discussions focused on the outcome of recent meetings between Ukrainian and American officials in Florida and preparations for further diplomatic engagement.

The latest contact highlights continuing communication between Kyiv and Washington amid uncertainty over the prospects for a negotiated settlement to the conflict.

DIPLOMATIC ENGAGEMENT CONTINUES

In a post on X, Zelenskyy described the discussion as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between Ukraine and the United States.

“Peace comes only through strength and cooperation built on trust,” he wrote.

He added that both sides had reviewed the outcome of their teams’ meeting in Florida and were preparing further diplomatic steps.

“In particular, we discussed the results of our teams’ meeting in Florida. Our teams maintain virtually nonstop communication. We are also preparing the next steps in diplomacy.” Zelenskyy said.

The statement did not provide details of any new agreement or indicate whether the discussions had produced a breakthrough.

The latest conversation comes as Ukraine continues to seek diplomatic support from Washington while resisting Russia’s invasion.

Previous rounds of engagement involving American representatives and both sides have yet to produce a comprehensive settlement.

Washington has sought to facilitate negotiations, although Kyiv and Moscow continue to differ over key elements of a potential agreement.

Although Zelenskyy’s announcement suggests that diplomatic contacts remain active, it remains unclear when the next formal meeting will take place or whether the discussions will lead to renewed negotiations involving Russia.

The Ukrainian government has consistently maintained that any settlement must address the country’s security and territorial concerns.

Zelenskyy’s latest conversation with Trump’s envoys signals that diplomatic engagement is still on, even as the war remains unresolved.
