Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has presented a proposed budget of ₦1.242 trillion for the 2027 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
The proposed appropriation bill, christened **“Budget of Assured Prosperity for Sustainable Growth and Development,”** stands at ₦1,242,688,970,520.22, representing a 22 per cent increase over the 2026 budget.
Presenting the estimates on Tuesday, Diri said the proposed spending plan was designed to consolidate the achievements of his administration, complete ongoing projects and create fresh opportunities for economic growth as the state approaches its fourth decade.
A breakdown of the proposal shows that ₦840.79 billion, representing 68 per cent of the total budget, is earmarked for capital expenditure, while ₦401.90 billion, representing 32 per cent, is allocated to recurrent expenditure.
The governor said the allocation reflected his administration’s determination to direct more resources towards infrastructure and development projects with direct benefits for residents.
According to him, priority areas under the proposed budget include roads and bridges, education, healthcare, electricity, agriculture, security and other critical sectors considered essential to sustainable development.
Diri explained that the 2027 fiscal plan was intended to build on the progress recorded under the 2026 budget, particularly in connecting communities, improving electricity supply and advancing long-awaited road projects.
He said the government would focus on completing existing projects while initiating new interventions across different sectors.
“As we enter Bayelsa’s fourth decade, our focus remains on consolidating the gains already made, completing ongoing projects and opening new opportunities for our people,” the governor stated.
He added that the budget was more than a financial document, describing it as a commitment to building connected communities, expanding economic opportunities and making prosperity accessible to residents.
“The 2027 budget is not just figures; it is a commitment to a future where our communities are connected, our economy grows and prosperity is accessible to all,” he said.
The governor expressed optimism that the proposed spending plan would sustain the state’s development trajectory and strengthen ongoing efforts to improve living conditions across Bayelsa.
