Ogun herbalist, wife die hours apart after surgery report

The deaths of an Ogun State herbalist and his wife within hours of each other have plunged Odogbolu into mourning, after the woman reportedly collapsed on hearing that her husband had died following an unsuccessful surgery.
The herbalist, identified as Chief Kabiru Rasaq, popularly known as Amigboro, and his wife, Kehinde, reportedly died on Friday, October 30. Their deaths have unsettled residents of the community, with reports of the tragedy spreading across social media over the weekend.
Rasaq was said to have undergone surgery at an undisclosed hospital but did not survive. Details of the medical condition that led to the operation, the nature of the procedure and the circumstances surrounding his death have not been made public.
His wife, described by a community source as a petty trader, reportedly received the news of her husband’s death afterwards. She allegedly slumped and was taken to a hospital, where she also died.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, recounted the sequence of events but did not provide further medical details.
“The incident actually happened on Friday, and from what I heard, the Oluwo of Ikosa died after undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital,” the resident said.
“Some people thereafter came to inform his wife of the sad news, and that was how the wife, a petty trader, fainted and was said to have been rushed to the hospital, but she did not survive.”
The account has fuelled sadness and disbelief in Odogbolu, where residents are grappling with the loss of the couple. A Facebook user, Fadipe Gbenro, also announced their deaths in a post on Saturday where described the incident as a painful loss to the Amigboro and Ojurongbe families and the entire community.
The post identified Rasaq as the Oluwo Ifa of Odogbolu and referred to his wife as his beloved companion. The title reflects his reported traditional religious position, although further details about his role in the community were not provided.
Beyond the immediate grief, the circumstances surrounding the two deaths call for careful verification. While the wife’s collapse was reportedly triggered by the news of her husband’s death, no medical report has established the precise cause of her death. Similarly, no official account has clarified the medical circumstances surrounding Rasaq’s surgery.
As of the time of filing this report, the hospital where the herbalist underwent surgery had not been identified, and no statement from the families or relevant authorities had been made available.
The couple’s deaths have left two families mourning and a community confronting an unusually painful loss. Their final hours, however, remain only partly explained by the accounts circulating publicly.
