After years of warning, IKEDC pole collapses in Lagos, abandoned + Photo

An electric pole owned by Ikeja Electric Distribution Plc has collapsed on Wempco Road in Ogba area of Lagos State.

The collapse of the pole comes after several years of warning by residents and business owners in the area.

The warning has been ignored by the power service provider.

The pole eventually gave way some days back, yet the firm has not paid attention to it despite getting a report from concerned residents and business owners in the area.

The collapse followed the heavy rains accompanied by wind in the last few weeks.

The pole is still being used for power supply.

Located inside the premises of an event centre, Praise House, the state of the wooden pole, which broke and tilted last week, has been described as a disaster waiting to happen as it bears high tension wires.

When contacted, the owner of the business premises, E. I. Akinyemi, said he has been reporting the issue constantly to the IKEDC for a long time both in writing and verbally.

Akinyemi told The Eagle Online: “Despite our years of complaints and neglect, the wooden pole broke and tilted a week ago and Ikeja Electric men are yet to replace it.”
