Nigerian Premier Football League’s (NPFL) broadcast partner, Propel Africa, has promised to deploy more cameras across the centres to beam quality packaged league matches to fans.
Propel Africa, which is at the centre of the television coverage of the 2023/24 season, has been relaying signals from match venues to followers of the game since they became broadcast partners to the NPFL.
Speaking in a radio programme, Sports Salsa, monitored in Lagos, Propel Africa President, Edwards Simmons, said over 40,000 subscribers spread across 106 countries have been following the NPFL, adding that thousands of Nigerians have also signed up to watch the best of the country’s game.
“The fans watch eight games a week all on MTN Mobile on the OTT platform and it really is going down a storm; we are thrilled with it and all produced locally,” he said. “We have 40 young Nigerians, men and women, who are handling the cameras, doing the broadcasting. It is a real tribute to the quality of Nigerian talents,” he added.
Simmons said followers of the league have been commending the performance of the commentators, adding that many fans across the world are thrilled to see their local teams live in action.
“The tendencies in the games are reflecting this. People are going back to the stadiums to watch their teams because they now understand it; they now know what is going on and that the game is now being properly managed. The results are fair and everybody is excited,” he said. He disclosed that viewers from 106 countries across the world log on to the NPFLlive.com to watch the games.
“We haven’t even started to market, yet many Nigerians abroad have found their way to watch the NPFL. From January 1, we will be reaching out to all of the 20 million Nigerians in Diaspora to be able to sign into the website,” he said.
Simmons disclosed that Propel Africa will be experimenting with multi-cameras to see how to improve the coverage within the new year, adding that the entrance of StarTimes into the league broadcast scene has added a new fillip to the league viewing experience.
