The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in a continued demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of pensioners has released an additional N1 billion in gratuity payments.
Adesoji Adewuyi, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of State Pensions, revealed this in his Abeokuta on Monday.
The Permanent Secretary clarified that the released funds would be disbursed in two batches: first batch will cover pensioners listed in October 2014, addressing outstanding Basic, Rent, and Transport allowances for March 2013.
In addition, pensioners with urgent medical needs or pending hospital bills will be considered from this gratuity.
The second batch of gratuity payments will be directed to pensioners listed in November 2014.
It will also cover Basic, Rent, and Transport (BRT) allowances for the remaining pensioners in March and April 2013.
Adewuyi lauded Governor Abiodun’s dedication to addressing the concerns of senior citizens, highlighting the positive impact the gesture would have on the lives of pensioners.
He enjoined those still awaiting payment to exercise patience, assuring them that the present administration would attend to their needs in due course.
The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the state government, over the last six months, has disbursed approximately N1.7 billion for the welfare of senior citizens.

He revealed that the comprehensive support includes full payment for the period from September to November 2014, BRT balance covering January to May 2013, gratuity for retired judges, assistance for pensioners with health challenges, and gratuity payments for certain permanent secretaries.
Expressing their gratitude to God for the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labour, beneficiaries of the initiatives commended the Governor for keeping to his promise.
They also offered prayers for his continued guidance and protection in steering the affairs of the state.
