Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has congratulated Professor Anthony Ani of the All Progressives Congress on his victory in the February 3, 2023 Ebonyi South Senatorial District’s by-election.
Governor Nwifuru described the victory “as the people’s show of confidence in Ani and the APC”.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, on Sunday, the governor said the people had again proven, through the ballot, that the overwhelming victory was predicated on the modest achievements of his government under the APC.

“During the campaigns, I reiterated our confidence for victory because we chose a candidate with the pedigree to win the election.
”I wish to appreciate the APC leadership, our supporters and the people of Ebonyi South senatorial district for their massive support to our candidate.
“I also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their firm and unbiased disposition which ensured smooth conduct of the election,” he said.
Nwifuru expressed confidence that Ani would make the state and nation proud at the Senate.
The Minister of Works, Chief David Umahi, in his congratulatory message, described Ani’s victory as
heartwarming and the reflection of the people’s will.
Umahi, who vacated the seat to assume office as the Minister of Works, said the proportional scores of the political parties are eminent testaments to APC’s popularity in Ebonyi.
“I applaud the voters’ sense of judgment in freely voting for our candidate based on conviction of his moral and intellectual capacity to effectively represent the people.
“I also applaud the people’s confidence in the ‘Renewed Hope’ administration of President Bola Tinubu and the People’s Charter of Needs of Gov. Francis Nwifuru,” he said.
Umahi, who is the immediate past governor of the state, expressed confidence in Ani’s ability to effectively represent the district and galvanise its people for unity and progress.
“I wish you the best as you represent us at the Senate and accept the deepest regards of my family,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ani scored 46,270 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief Ifeanyi Eleje of the All Progressives Grand Alliance who polled 3,513.
