Donald Trump, the United States president has ordered a temporary suspension of planned military strikes on Iran, citing what he described as “productive” discussions between both countries.
Speaking on Monday via a post on Truth Social, Trump said Washington and Tehran had made progress over the weekend in efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
According to him, “I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”
The US leader disclosed that the pause in military action would last for five days, pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
“Based on the tenor and tone of these… constructive conversations. I have instructed the department of war to postpone any and all militarystrikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period,” Trump added.
The decision follows heightened tensions after Washington threatened to target Iran’s energy infrastructure if Tehran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route.
