2027: APC Revises Timetable, Shifts Presidential Primaries To May 23

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, announced this while briefing journalists at the end of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Thursday.

Accompanied by the party’s National Leader of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), Hon. Tolu Bankole, the APC deputy spokesperson said the presidential primary election will now hold on May 23, while the governorship primary is slated for May 20, 2026.

According to him, the State House of Assembly primary election will also take place on May 20; the Senate primary election on May 18; and the House of Representatives primary election on May 15, 2026.

LEADERSHIP reports that the APC, in its earlier timetable and schedule of activities released on Monday, had fixed the presidential primary election for May 15–16; House of Representatives for May 18; Senate for May 20; State Houses of Assembly for May 21; and governorship for May 23, 2026.

Meseko also announced the release of the schedule of activities and timetable for the 2026 ward, local government, and state congresses in Zamfara State, beginning Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and ending May 3, 2026.

He further said the NWC adopted the mode of primary elections as provided in the Electoral Act—direct and consensus modes—with a caveat that members are at liberty to choose either option.

“Aspirants are free to decide their preference in accordance with the Electoral Act. Where there is consensus and an aspirant does not agree, it automatically reverts to direct primaries.

“The direct option must be agreed to by all aspirants; if not, the process reverts to direct primaries,” Meseko stated.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary also dismissed rumours that the APC’s expression of interest and nomination forms were exclusively reserved for a few individuals, saying the forms are open to all party members aspiring for elective positions.

“There was also a rumour that forms would be restricted or limited to certain individuals. I am here to inform all party faithful and aspirants that nomination forms for all aspirants seeking offices under the All Progressives Congress are open.

“Nomination forms are open to all members of the All Progressives Congress contesting elections,” he added.

On membership registration, Meseko said, “All newly registered members of the APC have had their updated list transmitted to INEC. We made an earlier submission, and an update has now been transmitted. We are now in full conformity with established rules.

“I also have to inform you that the All Progressives Congress is now fully ready for the upcoming primary elections.”
