Former Borno State Commissioner for Works,Mustapha Gubio has officially declared his interest in the 2027 governorship election after obtaining the All Progressives Congress, APC, nomination and expression of interest forms valued at N50 million in Abuja.

The forms were reportedly collected on his behalf on Tuesday, marking a formal entry into the race for the state’s top office under the ruling party.

The development signals the commencement of the APC’s internal contest as aspirants begin to position themselves ahead of the primaries.

Gubio was accompanied during the process by notable political figures, including Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, who represents northern Borno, as well as Bukar Talba, member representing Monguno, Nganzai and Marte federal constituency.

The former commissioner later confirmed the development via his social media handles, while Abdulrahman Bundi, senior technical assistant to Governor Babagana Zulum on new media and print, shared images from the event featuring both the governor and Gubio.

Bundi’s post read: “No comment, Allah’s choice is the best. Congratulations,” sparking political interpretations among observers as the race begins to take shape.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has already fixed the timetable for the 2027 general elections, with the presidential and National Assembly polls scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
