Airline operators in Nigeria have shelved their planned nationwide shutdown of flight operations after an appeal by the Federal Government (FG).
The operators, under the Airline Operators of Nigeria, had earlier warned that they would halt services due to rising jet fuel costs, which they described as unsustainable for their operations.
The planned shutdown raised concerns over possible disruption to air travel across the country.

However, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, intervened and urged the operators to reconsider their decision and allow room for dialogue.
Following the minister’s appeal, the airlines agreed to suspend the planned action and continue operations for now.
A meeting involving key stakeholders in the aviation sector has been scheduled for April 22 to address the issues affecting the industry and seek lasting solutions.
The crisis is linked to the rising cost of aviation fuel, which has continued to put pressure on airline operators and increase the cost of running flights in Nigeria.
Industry observers say the outcome of the planned meeting will be critical in determining the next steps, as both operators and government officials work to stabilise the sector and avoid further disruption to air travel.
