The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has announced an ambitious plan to develop a state-owned beach resort along the Araromi coastline, in a move aimed at transforming the area into a major tourism hub.
Speaking during the Araromi seaside carnival, Aiyedatiwa described the coastline as a vast but underutilised asset with significant economic potential. He disclosed that the state government is targeting between five and ten investors to partner in the development, noting that promotional efforts have already begun attracting global attention.
According to the governor, early signs of private sector involvement are already improving visitor experience and basic facilities within the area. He added that the government has completed land measurements and project designs, with construction scheduled to commence later this year.
Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the resort would be completed and operational within a year, assuring prospective investors of adequate security, enabling policies, and strong government backing.
He further highlighted the strategic advantage of the project’s proximity to the proposed Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, which is expected to significantly improve accessibility and increase tourist inflow upon completion.
Stakeholders and tourism officials at the event lauded the initiative, emphasizing its potential to stimulate economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and position Araromi as a competitive beach destination not only in Nigeria but across West Africa.
The Araromi beach development is seen as part of broader efforts by the Ondo State Government to diversify the economy through tourism and attract international investment into the state.
