A High Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, has sentenced a 33-year-old woman, Salamatu Saidu, to five years in prison for offences related to human trafficking.
The development was disclosed by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a statement shared on its verified Facebook page on Thursday.
The trial judge, Justice Bukar M. Umar, found the defendant guilty of fraudulent entry of persons, contrary to Section 26(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
According to NAPTIP, the offence involved the illegal movement of two victims, aged 21 and 33, through deceptive means.
The agency said Saidu was arraigned on April 20, 2026, and convicted the same day after the court established her involvement in the crime.
The court subsequently sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment.
NAPTIP urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as authorities intensify efforts to curb human trafficking in the country.
