The Ekiti State Government has unveiled over N2.05 billion in targeted empowerment initiatives as part of a broader N4.4 billion approval for key sectors including agriculture, health, and infrastructure.
The decision, announced after the State Executive Council meeting in Ado Ekiti, highlights the administration’s focus on job creation, agricultural productivity, and support for small-scale economic activities.
Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said a significant portion of the approvals is directed at programmes designed to directly impact livelihoods.
Breakdown of empowerment-focused allocations
At the centre of the empowerment drive is the N1.55 billion allocation for land clearing under the Youth in Agriculture Programme. The initiative will open up 675 hectares of farmland, creating opportunities for young people to engage in commercial farming.
In addition, the government approved N500 million for a subsidised tractorisation programme ahead of the 2026 planting season. This is expected to ease access to mechanised farming, reduce production costs, and improve yields for local farmers.
Combined, both interventions account for over N2.05 billion dedicated to empowerment-linked programmes, with a strong emphasis on agriculture as a vehicle for economic inclusion.
Wider support for enterprise and livelihoods
Beyond direct funding, the state also approved the renovation of the National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Clinic and the Ultra-Modern Garment Factory. While specific figures were not disclosed, both facilities are expected to strengthen skills development, entrepreneurship, and small business support.
These efforts are aligned with broader plans to expand economic participation and provide structured opportunities for residents to improve their income levels.
