Former PDP deputy governorship candidate defects to Labour Party in Abia state

Former deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia, Jasper Uche, has defected to the Labour Party (LP).

Uche, founder of the Ihe Abia Organisation, announced his defection during a visit to Governor Alex Otti.

He said the decision followed consultations with his supporters and political associates. Uche said he joined the LP to support Otti’s administration and contribute to his re-election bid in 2027.

“We are going to complement the efforts of my brothers that are working with you. We will triple Umunneochi votes in 2027,” he said.

Otti welcomed the defection and assured Uche of full integration into the party.

“We are very open to receiving people. We will not give up. We will not be distracted. We have a mission, and until that mission is completed, we won’t stop,” he said.

The governor directed Chaka Chukwumerije, commissioner for lands, to facilitate the reception and integration of Uche and his supporters in Umunneochi LGA.

Uche said he had earlier informed the governor of his decision to leave the PDP.

“Last time, I was here to formally inform you that I want to leave my former party and join you,” he said, adding that his supporters are committed to mobilising support for Otti ahead of the next election.
