Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has condemned the conduct of some youths who reportedly exposed their underwear during the recent official visit of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
He described the act as disgraceful and unacceptable.
The governor also distanced himself, his administration, and the people of Kano from the incident, insisting that it does not represent the values, culture, or traditions of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Governor Yusuf made his remarks while speaking at the Third Special Prayer for Lasting Peace held at the Government House, where 4,444 Qur’anic reciters gathered to pray for peace, stability, and progress in Kano State and Nigeria.
He said the action of the youths was a clear departure from the Kano First Agenda of his administration and went against the teachings of Islam, which promote modesty, discipline, and respect for authority.
“Our youths should be symbols of hope and development, not tools for mockery or moral decay,” the governor said.
He also urged political actors to avoid inciting young people for selfish gains, warning that such behaviour could damage society.
“I urge my fellow politicians to lead by example, stop the culture of insults, and focus on the Kano First Agenda rather than pushing our children toward indecency,” Yusuf added.
The governor called on the youths involved in the incident to seek forgiveness and apologise to the people of Kano for the embarrassment caused.
He further warned against the misuse of young people in political activities, saying it threatens the moral fabric of society.
Recall that last week some youth were celebrating on the street of Kano with underwear in their hands, singing and dancing.
