Gunmen kill commercial bus driver, abduct passengers in Edo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have attacked a commercial bus reportedly belonging to the GUO transport company, killing its driver and abducting unspecified numbers of passengers on the Benin-Lagos highway.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident happened on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

It was learnt that the gunmen ambushed the commercial bus while driving to the Eastern part of the country from Lagos on the ever Benin-Ore axis of the road.

The gunmen reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, forcing it to a halt.

The driver of the vehicle was reported to have died on the spot while the passengers were allegedly whisked into the bush.

In a viral video, a narrator was heard, saying the “gunmen ambushed a commercial bus heading towards the East, killing the driver and dragging the passengers into the bush.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem said operatives of the Command have begun a manhunt for the kidnappers.

Ikoedem added that the operatives have commenced bush combing to rescue the kidnapped passengers and arrest the perpetrators.

“The incident happened under the Iguobazuwa Police division, the Police Commissioner has ordered adjourning divisions to join the bush combing for the rescue operation,” she added.
