Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that the Israeli government has granted licenses for 33 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.
In remarks to Hebrew media, Smotrich described the move as a âhistoric achievement,â stating that the government had recognised the construction of dozens of settlements and legalized additional outposts in recent months.
He added that the policy aims to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, saying the government is moving toward what he described as âpractical sovereignty on the ground.â

According to Israeli media reports, the approvals include both the recognition of new settlements and the legalisation of previously unauthorised outposts.
Approximately 750,000 Israeli settlers currently live across settlements in the occupied West Bank, including around 250,000 in settlements in and around East Jerusalem.
The expansion comes amid ongoing Israeli occupation policies, including raids, arrests, killings, property destruction, home demolitions, and forced displacement of Palestinians, alongside continued settlement expansion on Palestinian land.
