The delegation was led by Mr. Zhou Hongyou, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, alongside Mr. Wang Yingqi, Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs, and other senior embassy officials.
Welcoming the Chinese delegation, Tegbe reiterated Nigeria’s firm commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with China and reaffirmed adherence to the One-China principle. He disclosed that Nigeria is targeting a bilateral trade volume of 350 billion RMB (approximately $50 billion) by 2030, with at least 30 per cent of the trade volume coming from Nigerian exports.
According to him, the ambitious target will be driven by the anticipated zero-tariff policy and a significant increase in the export of agricultural produce, alongside strengthened economic collaboration to support sustainable growth for Nigerian businesses.
In his remarks, Mr. Zhou expressed satisfaction with the growing Nigeria–China relationship, stressing the need to explore new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in technology, agriculture and human capacity development. He noted that the zero-tariff agreement would unlock major opportunities for Nigerian businesses and further boost bilateral trade.
The Chinese Embassy also reaffirmed its support for Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda, especially in steel development and agriculture, while committing to the continuation of key development projects in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tegbe concluded by felicitating with the Chinese people ahead of the Chinese Spring Festival, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership with China.
