Jim Obazee, Okpoziakpo to testify for EFCC in alleged $6. 23m fraud trial of Emefiele

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in Abuja has summoned former Executive Officer, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRC, Jim Obazee to appear before him, Tuesday to give evidence in the $6.23m fraud charges brought against a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele.
Obazee is to appear before the Court alongside a Commissioner of Police, Mr Eloho Okpoziakpo as prosecution witnesses in the ongoing trial of Emefiele.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is prosecuting Emefiele on an amended 20-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, conspiracy to obtain by false pretense to the tune of $ 6.23 million
In a subpoena dated April 27, 2026, Justice Muazu ordered Obazee and Okpoziakpo “to appear before the Court on the 28th of April, 2026 at the hour of 9 “o” Clock in the forenoon and so soon thereafter from day to day until the above case is tried to tender newspaper publication relating to Naira redesign”
A court document just obtained by our Correspondent showed that the high ranking witnesses are billed to enter the witness box by 11 am.
EFCC had argued that the testimony of the two men would be vital to establishing its fraud allegations against the former Chief of CBN being the key figure in the investigation that led to filing of the charges.
The judge in the subpoena stated that the witnesses investigated Emefiele for the offenses for which he is standing trial and should appear before the court to offer explanations on newspaper publication relating to the redesign of the Naira.
