The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing growing internal tension following the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada by Governor Abdullahi Sule as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election.
The move, announced ahead of the party’s official primary guidelines, has drawn criticism from key stakeholders who argue that due process was not followed.
Prominent among them is former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who stated that he was neither consulted nor informed before the endorsement or the presentation of Wadada to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I was never consulted. It is too early, and due process must be followed,” Al-Makura said, while maintaining that he holds no personal grievance against the endorsed candidate.
Despite the backlash, Governor Sule has defended his decision, insisting that the endorsement followed extensive consultations and aligns with established political traditions in the state.
His supporters, including members of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Danladi Jatau, have also declared support for Wadada and called for party unity.
However, opposition within the party continues to build.
Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who is also seeking the APC ticket, has rejected the endorsement, insisting that the governorship will be decided through a transparent primary.
The development has further reignited debates around zoning and power rotation in the state, with various groups arguing over which district or constituency should produce the next governor.
Political observers warn that if not carefully managed, the growing disagreements could weaken party cohesion and affect the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
