NYSC confirms death of corps member killed in Abuja military combat

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the death of a corps member, Abdulsamad Jamiu, who was killed during a military operation near his residence in Abuja.

In a statement released on Monday, the scheme said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Shagari Estate in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Jamiu, with code number NS/25A/2904, was serving at Government Junior Secondary School, Bakin Ado, in Nasarawa State before his death.

The NYSC described the incident as tragic and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young corps member, who was said to be actively contributing to national development through his service year.

According to the scheme, it has begun engagement with relevant security agencies to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.

While details of the military operation were not disclosed, the NYSC said it was treating the matter with serious concern.

The statement noted, “The scheme is actively engaging with security agencies to ascertain what happened.”

The agency also assured corps members and the general public that it remains committed to the safety and welfare of all its personnel across the country.

It added that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with security and intelligence agencies, to reduce risks and improve protection for corps members nationwide.

The NYSC extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, stating that it stands with them in this difficult moment.

The scheme also prayed for the peaceful repose of Jamiu’s soul.
