A fresh crisis has erupted in the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the exclusion of former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, from a key stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday.
The meeting, which took place at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, was convened by party leaders across the Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of permutations for the 2027 general elections. However, tension flared when Daniel was denied entry into the venue, triggering a standoff between his supporters and security operatives.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the senator arrived at the venue with supporters but was stopped at the gate, with security officials reportedly insisting that those accompanying him could not be granted access.

Addressing supporters outside the venue, Daniel expressed displeasure over the development, declaring that any decision taken at the meeting would be invalid.
“We came for the caucus meeting and arrived early, but we were denied access. Any decision taken in my absence will be meaningless,” he said.
Despite the tension, party leaders proceeded with the meeting, where stakeholders reportedly endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun for the Ogun East senatorial seat in 2027, a move widely seen as deepening the rift within the party.
Sources within the party said the endorsement reflected a growing alignment among key stakeholders in favour of the governor, even as it underscored an intensifying power struggle between Abiodun and Daniel over control of the party structure in the district.
It was further gathered that the meeting drew prominent party figures, including lawmakers, local government officials, and grassroots mobilisers, signalling what organisers described as a consensus arrangement ahead of the next election cycle.
However, Daniel’s camp alleged deliberate exclusion, claiming that the gathering was dominated by loyalists of the governor and that dissenting voices were systematically shut out.
