SeesThe All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has dismissed resolutions taken by Nigeria’s opposition party leaders at a national summit held on Saturday in Ibadan with a wave of the hand, describing them as unserious political actors lacking the capacity to advance democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
The party maintained that neither President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor any APC member is concerned about the gathering, insisting that the opposition lacks the cohesion and credibility required to unseat the incumbent administration in any election.
The APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, in a statement on Sunday, described the meeting as a futile exercise. He likened the opposition’s efforts to chasing a competitor who is already far ahead, insisting that the ruling party remains firmly in control.
Makinde had hosted prominent figures from various opposition parties at a one-day Opposition Political Parties National Summit in Ibadan, reportedly aimed at forging strategies to challenge the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Funny enough, there are some individuals among these opposition jesters who know that President Tinubu travels at the speed of light to outpace his opponents when it comes to real politics, but they would not say the truth to their co-travellers because a dog that is destined for perdition would not mind the whistle of the hunter.
“It is even shameful that Gov. Makinde, who has been established to be a naive and deceitful political player, is now the moral compass for some politicians who have recorded irredeemable failures in politics and governance in the past.
“As it stands now, they have gathered only palm fronts to fix a damaged vehicle, even as they look at the direction of fishermen for technical support.
“The ‘Operation Wetie’ threat, which came from Governor Makinde, would not be taken with a pinch of salt as it was a revelation, but he should realise that no unrest or violence would mar the 2027 general elections.
“The polls will be hitch-free and credible while he (Makinde) would not find an avenue to escape from the country before 29 May 2027 so that he would be made to answer for the many cases of abuse of office and corruption hanging on his neck”, the party.
