The Plateau state government has filed terrorism-related charges against five suspects linked to the March 2026 attack in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North LGA, which left over 30 people dead.
In a statement on Wednesday, the government said the suspects were arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) between April 3 and April 10, 2026, before being formally charged in court.
They are accused of criminal conspiracy, terrorism-related offences, and participation in the planning and execution of the deadly attack.
According to the charge filed by Philemon Daffi, the State Attorney-General, the defendants allegedly acted “contrary to Section 269 and punishable under Section 270 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017.”
The prosecution further alleged that the accused persons “conspired amongst yourselves to commit offences relating to terrorism when you planned, organised, facilitated, aided, and contributed money” for the attack, which reportedly claimed more than 30 lives.
Adamu Isa Alhassan, one of the defendants is also facing additional counts, including culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful dealing in arms and ammunition.
He is accused of taking part in armed attacks across communities in Riyom and Jos South.
The March 28 violence, which affected parts of Bokkos and Bassa local government areas, triggered widespread condemnation and renewed calls for stronger security intervention in Plateau State.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the killings as an attempt to destabilise the state, insisting that “life must go on” despite the violence and pledging that “the genocide on the Plateau will come to an end.”
President Bola Tinubu, who visited the state after the incident, also assured residents that “justice would be served” and called for continued vigilance while security interventions are strengthened.
