Police arrest three robbery suspects, recover stolen items in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered several stolen items in coordinated operations across the state.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, ok behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
The Command noted that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
The statement identified the suspects as 43 year old Akinwale Morufu, 40 year old Banji Tope and 30 year old Banji Olumide.
The police said they were arrested after officers from the Iragbiji Divisional Headquarters acted on intelligence reports regarding a suspicious black bag found in an uncompleted building within the community.
“The bag was recovered and found to contain a locally made cut-to-size pistol, a Tecno Android phone, a knife, a Moniepoint ATM card, a catapult, a padlock and a voter’s card,” the statement said.
The police explained that the owner of the voter’s card was traced and arrested, adding that he admitted ownership of the bag, the pistol and the catapult but denied ownership of the phone and ATM card.
Further investigation, including technical analysis, led to the identification of the phone’s owner, who confirmed it was stolen during an armed robbery incident at her residence on April 4, 2026.
“She stated that armed men invaded her home at about 5:00 a.m., stole her phone and the sum of N89,000 along with her ATM card at gunpoint,” the police added.
The Command also said it received a distress call on April 19 regarding an armed robbery attack at a cooking gas shop in Isale Oyo, Iragbiji.
The police noted that the victim was shot in both legs by one of the assailants, who reportedly demanded cash and fled with money, two iPhone 11 Pro Max devices and a motorcycle.
Acting on intelligence, police operatives and local vigilantes tracked and arrested Banji Tope in Ikirun, recovering the stolen motorcycle, while another suspect, Banji Olumide, was also apprehended.
“The victim is currently receiving treatment, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang,” the statement added.
CP Gotan reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure peace and security across Osun State.
“All suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” the police said.
