Political enemies behind leaked video, says Osun APC ex-gov aspirant

An aspirant for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for Osun West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, Akin Ogunbiyi, has expressed commitment to the party, saying those planning to put him against President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the party had failed.

Ogunbiyi’s declaration was coming on the heel of a video clip which went viral on the social media, where he made some statements considered denigrating to APC and some leaders of the party.

In the video, Ogunbiyi, who was addressing some party leaders, purported claimed that the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, would have joined APC, if the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, had not opposed the idea.

But in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday, the ex-governorship aspirant in the state who is also the chairman, Mutual Benefits Assurance, expressed concerns why his political opponents will want to use an innocently made speech to cause friction between him and leaders of the party.

He also said the video of the speech was deliberately manipulated and shared on the social media, noting that his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, Oyetola and the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, remains very cordial.

“I understand the concern of some of the genuine members and supporters of our dear party who initially felt aggrieved with the portion of the event but outrightly shifted their position after they had listened to the full recorded video of the event.

“Further investigation revealed that the sponsors of the campaign of the calumny against my person took to their mischievous route in order to create a wedge between me and one of the most hardworking Presidents in the world, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the immediate-past governor of our state, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and the governor-in-waiting, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

“The demonic act of my political foes against my person which has fallen flat as it lacks substance would not prevent me from investing my best in all known constitutional ramifications to the re-election bid of President Tinubu and the forthcoming governorship election of my dear brother, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji,” Ogunbiyi said.

The PUNCH reports that Osun APC had risen in defence of Ogunbiyi, and enjoined the members of the public to discountenance the video recording.

A statement by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, obtained in Osogbo, in reaction, alleged that the said video was being circulated by members of the Accord Party, describing those sharing the video as ‘failed political entities.’
