Bernardo Silva has confirmed he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, bringing his long and successful spell at the club to a close.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who currently serves as captain, revealed his decision in a social media post on Thursday, stating he will depart when his contract expires. His exit will mark the end of a remarkable nine-year journey at the Etihad.
Since joining City from AS Monaco in the 2017/2018 campaign, Silva has made 451 appearances, placing him among the club’s most featured players of all time.
Reflecting on his career in Manchester, Silva expressed deep gratitude, noting that he arrived with dreams of success but ultimately achieved far more than he had imagined. He highlighted the team’s historic accomplishments, including multiple league triumphs, a Treble, and other domestic and international honours, describing them as memories he will always cherish.
Beyond football, Silva also spoke about the personal significance of his time in the city, where he began his family life. He thanked his loved ones for their support throughout his journey.
A graduate of SL Benfica’s academy, Silva moved to Monaco in 2014 before making the switch to City three years later. During his time in England, he played a key role in the club’s dominance, winning the Premier League title six times as well as the UEFA Champions League.
This season alone, Silva has featured in 44 matches, contributing three goals and five assists while leading the team as captain.
