The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in two appeals filed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Seyi Makinde, challenging rulings that nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan in November last year.
A five-member panel led by Mohammed Garba announced on Wednesday that a date for judgment would be communicated to counsel representing all parties.
The panel reserved judgment after lawyers adopted their briefs and urged the court to grant their respective reliefs.
The first appeal (SC/CV/164/2026) was filed by the PDP against a decision of the Court of Appeal Nigeria, which upheld the ruling of Peter Lifu. That ruling barred the PDP from proceeding with its national convention without accommodating Sule Lamido.
The second appeal (SC/CV/166/2026), filed by the PDP alongside its National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC), challenges another Court of Appeal judgment affirming the decision of James Omotosho. That earlier ruling restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring the Ibadan convention pending compliance with required conditions.
The outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the PDP’s internal leadership structure and future conventions.
