A High Court of Justice sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State, has convicted and sentenced a 33-year-old woman, Salamatu Saidu, to five-year imprisonment for offences related to human trafficking.
The trial judge, Justice Bukar M. Umar, found Salamatu guilty of “fraudulent entry of persons,” involving victims aged 21 and 33 years, contrary to Section 26(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
Details of the case were made public by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) via its verified Facebook page on Thursday.
According to the agency, Saidu was arraigned on April 20, 2026, and convicted on the same day after the court established her involvement in the illegal movement of persons through deceptive means.
Under the Trafficking in Persons Act, “fraudulent entry of persons” refers to “knowingly organizing, facilitating, or assisting the illegal movement of a person into or out of Nigeria through deception, false representation, or unlawful means,” the statement read
The court subsequently sentenced her to five years in prison.
NAPTIP reiterated its stance against human trafficking, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as authorities intensified efforts to curb the menace across the country.
