The Borno State Government has announced a temporary restriction on movement across the state to ensure a peaceful Eid prayer celebration.
The restriction, approved by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, will be enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday and will affect all vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles.
The directive comes shortly after the Nigerian military warned of possible terrorist attacks in crowded areas across the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, the government said the measure was introduced to strengthen security during the Eid festivities.
Residents were advised to attend Eid prayer grounds closest to their homes to ease movement, identification, and access.
Tar added that security personnel, ambulances, fire service officials, emergency responders, and other essential workers with valid identification would be exempted from the restriction.
He urged residents across the 27 local government areas of the state to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies.
The commissioner also appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against acts capable of disrupting public peace.
Governor Zulum further called on residents to pray for lasting peace in Borno State and Nigeria, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, reconstruction, and resettlement efforts.
