The federal government has commenced the disbursement of approved outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries abroad.
The Federal Ministry of Education confirmed the development in a statement posted on its official X handle, signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.
According to the ministry, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has successfully remitted the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions abroad for immediate disbursement to eligible scholars.
Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the released funds represent 50 per cent of the outstanding 2025 obligations, adding that arrangements are ongoing to settle the remaining balance.
“The funds have already reached embassy accounts, and affected missions are expected to begin immediate payments to beneficiaries. Scholars were advised to monitor their accounts as payments begin to reflect,” the statement said.
Dr Alausa said the payment reflects the federal government’s commitment to meeting its obligations to Nigerian students under the Bilateral Education Agreement and improving welfare support for scholars abroad.
He added that the development aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the area of human capital development and education support.
The ministry further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining policies aimed at strengthening education funding, student welfare, and international academic partnerships.
