Nigerian actor Deyemi Okanlawon has sparked online conversations after saying he would be comfortable becoming a house husband if his wife earned more than he does.
The actor made the statement during a recent discussion on a podcast hosted by Taymesan, titled “teawithtaypod” about marriage, finances, and gender roles within modern relationships. According to Okanlawon, he would willingly step away from acting if his wife earned between $1 million and $10 million annually. “If my wife makes $1-10 million per annum, I’ll quit acting and be a house husband,” he said while addressing the idea of women becoming primary breadwinners in marriage.
Okanlawon went further to say that he does not view financial success within marriage as a competition, stressing that family stability and partnership matter more than traditional expectations surrounding gender roles.
The actor’s comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users praising his openness and others debating cultural expectations surrounding marriage and masculinity.
