Nigerian socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Paschal Okechukwu, popularly known as Chief Priest, has reaffirmed that he remains firmly in the political race despite his recent setback at the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election.
He says the loss has not weakened his ambition, but rather strengthened his resolve to continue pursuing political office in the future.
Chief Priest made this known during a recent interview on Beat FM 99.9, where he addressed the public reactions that followed his defeat. He noted that the outcome of the primaries attracted heavy online criticism, with many social media users mocking his entry into politics and questioning his decision to contest.
According to him, the experience has now given him a deeper understanding of the realities of Nigerian politics. He explained that political success is not achieved quickly, but is built through patience, strategy, and long-term commitment.
He maintained that setbacks are part of the process and do not necessarily mark the end of a political journey.
He further drew comparisons with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political trajectory, pointing out that leadership ambition often requires years of preparation, alliances, and persistence before eventual success. He said this reflection has reshaped how he views political timing and resilience.
Chief Priest added that he now sees value in stepping back, restrategizing, and returning stronger, stressing that political ambition must be sustained with consistency rather than emotion.
He said: “President Tinubu sacrificed eight years and pushed President Buhari to first go before him. So what am I learning from my master? Patience, perseverance, knowing that you can step back, restrategize and hit at the right time. I will try again even if I lost before.
“That’s why I jumped into the studio and let them know this is still CP and in less than one week from that primary, CP has a new hit song banging out here.”
