Insecurity: Abia NSCDC promises to protect unity schools’ students, staff 

Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corps, CC Chukwuemeka  Odimba, has reassured the management of Federal government unity schools in Abia of the Command’s  commitment to the safety of their students, staff  and facilities.

Odimba gave the reassurance at the Federal Hovernment College FGC, Ohafia, during his visit unity schools in Abia.

He said the protection of Nigerian students is a priority to the NSCDS, noting that the visit was  part of the measures of the  Commandant General of NSCDC, Abubakar Audi in  boosting the security  in Unity Schools across the federation.

He said the national safe school initiative of the federal government, domesticated in NSCDC, was basically for the safety of staff, students, learning facilities and peaceful academic environment. 

He disclosed that there would be  increased surveillance and patrol within the schools, adding that a detachment of counter terrorism team of the NSCDS in the command will be deployed to work closely with the office of the principal and the chief security officer of the unity schools. 

The NSCDS Commandant similarly visited the Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, where he discussed with the school’s management on the best ways to effectively secure the female students, staff and property.

In their responses, the Principals of FGC Ohafia, Mr Chukwuemeka  Ezeoba and that of Umuahia, Mrs Umunnakwe Joy thanked the Abia NSCDC Commandant for the interest in protecting the  students, staff and facilities.
